Hakan Fidan (born 7 April 1968) is a Turkish politician and career diplomat best known for heading Turkey's National Intelligence Organization (Millî İstihbarat Teşkilâtı, MIT) from 2010 until 2023. In June 2023 he was appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs in President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's cabinet.

1. Early life and education
• Born in Çorum Province (Central Anatolia), Turkey.
• Undergraduate degree in political science and international relations from Bilkent University, Ankara.
• MPhil in international relations from the University of Leeds (UK).
• PhD in political science (Bilkent University).

2. Diplomatic career
• Late 1990s–2005: Served in the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, including as political consul at the embassy in Damascus.
• 2007–2009: Special adviser to then–Prime Minister (now President) Erdoğan on foreign policy and security affairs.
• 2009–2010: Undersecretary (i.e. permanent secretary) at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

3. Head of MIT (2010–2023)
• Appointed on 29 May 2010 as chief of Turkey's intelligence service, succeeding Emre Taner.
• Oversaw intelligence operations during the Syrian civil war, the fight against ISIS, and cross-border security initiatives in Iraq and Syria.
• Played a key behind-the-scenes role in rapprochement talks with Israel (2016) and in shuttle diplomacy with regional actors.
• Survived a parliamentary censure motion in 2012 related to the so-called "intelligence trucks" scandal.
• Under his leadership MIT expanded its technical capabilities and regional intelligence networks.

4. Foreign Minister (from June 2023)
• Appointed on 4 June 2023 in Erdoğan's third cabinet.
• Charged with implementing Turkey's active regional diplomacy in the Eastern Mediterranean, the Caucasus, and the Middle East.
