What is the UniProt KnowledgeBase?
The UniProt Knowledgebase (UniProtKB) is the central hub for the collection of functional information on proteins, with accurate, consistent and rich annotation.
What is the difference between UniParc and UniProt KB?
The UniProt Archive (UniParc) provides a stable, comprehensive sequence collection without redundant sequences by storing the complete body of publicly available protein sequence data. The UniProt Knowledgebase (UniProtKB) is the central database of protein sequences with accurate, consistent, and rich sequence and functional annotation.
What is UniProtKB/SWISS PROT?
UniProtKB/Swiss-Prot (reviewed) is a high quality manually annotated and non-redundant protein sequence database, which brings together experimental results, computed features and scientific conclusions. How redundant are sequences in UniProtKB?
What can I do with UniProt?
You can send us general questions and suggestions , updates or corrections to UniProt or submit new protein sequence data . All databases and documents in the UniProt FTP directory and web sites are distributed under the Creative Commons Attribution-NoDerivs License.
What is UniProt funded by?
UniProt is funded by grants from the National Human Genome Research Institute, the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the European Commission, the Swiss Federal Government through the Federal Office of Education and Science, NCI-caBIG, and the US Department of Defense. ^ UniProt, Consortium. (January 2015).
What is uniuniprot archive?
UniProt Archive (UniParc) is a comprehensive and non-redundant database, which contains all the protein sequences from the main, publicly available protein sequence databases. Proteins may exist in several different source databases, and in multiple copies in the same database.
In addition to capturing the core data mandatory for each UniProtKB entry (mainly, the amino acid sequence, protein name or description, taxonomic data and citation information), as much annotation information as possible is added.
Where are the protein sequences provided by UniProtKB derived?
More than 95 % of the protein sequences provided by UniProtKB are derived from the translation of the coding sequences (CDS) which have been submitted to the public nucleic acid databases, the EMBL-Bank/GenBank/DDBJ databases ( INSDC ).
